Predictors of postoperative negative outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation

چکیده

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has allowed patients who were previously not fit enough for heart surgery to have a replacement without going through major surgery. Complication rates following TAVI reduced over the last few years, but studies suggest that incidence of several complications remains high. Avoiding is key reducing costs associated with TAVI, which important given procedure already more expensive than other treatment options. An emerging strategy undergoing identify preoperative factors predictive postoperative adverse outcomes. This commentary summarises three systematic reviews explore moderating events after surgery, aim identifying statistically and clinically significant poor surgical outcomes contextualising these within clinical practice.

Reducing mortality rates in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation

Our society is rapidly aging, and this is associated with an increase in the number of patients with cardiovascular disease, such as aortic valve stenosis. In the western world, aortic valve stenosis is predominantly the consequence of valve degeneration, which shares some pathophysiological pathways with atherosclerosis, finally leading to leaflet calcification [1]. With the occurrence of symp...

Antithrombotic treatment in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an established treatment option for symptomatic patients with severe aortic valvular disease who are not suitable for conventional surgical aortic valve replacement. Despite improving experience and techniques, ischaemic and bleeding complications after TAVI remain prevalent and impair survival in this generally old and comorbid-rich population....

Predictors of functional decline in elderly patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Aims This study aimed to assess functional course in elderly patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and to find predictors of functional decline. Methods and results In this prospective cohort, functional course was assessed in patients ≥70 years using basic activities of daily living (BADL) before and 6 months after TAVI. Baseline EuroSCORE, STS score, and a frailty...
